Connecting With Students - Part Three
July 12th, 2022:
With heart-filled joy and excitement, Mr. G. A. Ganesh arranged for my friends and I to visit Onnalvadi again. I have already been to Onnalvadi High School once to talk to 9th and 10th grade students. I was looking forward to the event very much. My school friends T. G. Abhishekk and H. Haarish Infant Raj and my mother, N. Hema, joined me in connecting with the students. Abhishekk has completed his final year in B. Sc. Microbiology and Haarish is in the final phase of his B. Sc. Computer Science.
The afternoon of July 12th when we went in, about hundred students were all sitting in a compact room ready to lend their ears to us. They all seemed very excited to meet us. They were a lot of 8th and 9th grade students. To my surprise, a few of them recognized me. This event was important to us all as we had decided to share with them the very things that we think we'd have liked to hear when we were of their age.
My mom shared her experience about how good thoughts and good deeds positively impact our lives. Haarish took on the mantle of teaching and explained them some mysteries about how websites works (technically) and what's the best way to utilize it. Abhishekk encouraged them with a story about knowledge and character and how it shapes one's life. I was keen on sharing my experience with public speaking and the way to do it with as less performance anxiety as possible.
We also wanted to give them some practical exposure to public speaking. So, we asked two of them to volunteer and talk for a minute about anything they wanted to. Whilst they found it hard to come out of their fears, they were all eager and willing to try. I was very happy to see that with help, almost every one of them was willing to give the best to become better versions of themselves.

What is next?
As I have come to Coimbatore for my final year of college, my mom has shown great interest in keeping the trend going with other schools. I am very much excited to share with you the details of those events in upcoming blogs. I am also obliged to express my gratitude towards all of the teachers, students and coordinators for continuing to make things easy for us to connect with the younger generations of India.
Leave your comments, I am open to your suggestions and recommendations :)
Keep up the good work Surya.
