Connecting With Students - Part One

What is meant by "Connecting with students"?

My first attempt at connecting with students of schools nearby came about in 2017. It all started with a bunch of friends who wanted to make this world a better place for as many families as possible by helping out the upcoming members of the families, the students. More than 15 like-minded people came together, all either school or college students. With the combined efforts of my friends, family and Mr. G. A. Ganesh, the founder and proprietor of HHH (Helping Hands to Humanity) trust, we drafted a 4 hour long session wherein we talked about our experiences and methods of learning, conducted mini quizzes and competitions, our choices of careers and how we hope to pursue them. That was the start of a remarkable journey. We conducted almost 10 such events within the span of two years.

What is the story?

I am often asked by my peers and friends how and why I even came up with the idea of reaching out to other students and talking to them and how it actually works. At school, I discovered that I like teaching my peers and from their feedbacks and progress, that I am also good at it. My family had always insisted on the importance of knowledge and how it can shape one's life. When I realized that my friends also wanted to help others learn, things took a quick turn and we became an independent group of people willing to work afterhours to make this a possibility. During my 10th grade, we had finally gathered enough knowledge and contacts to reach out to other Govt. schools. As 10th graders, we ran the risk of not being taken seriously. So for the first attempt, we chose the classes 6, 7, 8 of KGBV Govt. residential school. It was a successful event and within the next two years, we had conducted over 10 events in different schools and orphanages.  We did not document or photograph all of our events properly since we did not have the experience doing so. Photographs of major sessions are uploaded with date and place below. We have talked about life style, importance of education, health, family, good virtues, reading etc. We have taught students mnemonics and other memory techniques. We have guided students in their career choices. We have also helped them deal with their personal and family problems. Although we were very successful in the two years, we had to dissolve the group after schooling as everyone moved to different places for college. Since I got back home from college due to the pandemic, I had been waiting for schools to reopen and work regularly so that I can go back to connecting with students. I jumped at the chance and conducted three sessions on life style and philosophy during the fall of 2021. I am excited to conduct more such events and share my stories with you.
